Spirit Week Creates Unity
From October 31 until November 4, the student-led Spirit Week was celebrated by the Elementary School and Secondary School at BCIS so that all students and staff members could feel they belong to the diverse BCIS Community. A specific theme was chosen for each day to be followed as voted by the students. The winning selections included Twins Day, Odd Clothing Day, Funky Hat Day, Terry Fox Run Day, and the always enjoyable Halloween, which kicked off the week’s festivities and created a bridge between China and the world indeed. Every day, the school’s corridors were filled with unique characters ranging from ninjas, zombies, and even EVE from Wall-E, zooming by to the delight of all. On certain days, not only twins, but triplets and quintuplets could also be seen roaming the grounds. Overall, the week was a wonderful way to not only celebrate the uniqueness and creativity of the BCIS Community, but also bring it closer even further. The spirit of fun and community sense will continue on November 18, Games Day, for which students are asked to bring a game to school to play with friends, and on December 9, Festive Friday, for which everyone will be asked to dress up in festive colors and sparkly clothes. In the words of Elementary School Principal Julie Lawton, “The BCIS Spirit [is] high!” We couldn’t agree more.
