Grade 2 Join Forces with the Marketing Team

Under the spacious and open area of the ES Library, Grade 2 students recently gathered and sat on the floor to hear a presentation from the school’s Marketing Team on everything involved in undertaking the great outdoor event known as Spring in the City. As part of their current unit on advertising, the students received a taste of what it is like to be part of such a diverse and hard-working group during such a very busy period. This entailed learning about the positions and roles of the manager, photographer, writer, events coordinator, and designer that make up the diverse team. In addition, they were shown souvenirs, posters, pictures, and videos from previous Spring in the City events, which stirred up much interest. However, this meeting was more than just a simple session of “Show and Tell” to share information. It actually served as the perfect platform to commence the official cooperation of the Grade 2 students and Marketing Team on this year’s wonderful community event.

Continuing a tradition that started several years ago, the Grade 2 students were asked with the important task of helping come up with the theme for this year’s Spring in the City event. With events from the past focusing on themes such as, “Flourish,” “Renewal,” “Lights, Camera, Action,” and “Festival of the Arts,” the young minds will have to put on their best thinking caps to create a new and exciting idea to excite our community and beyond. They not only have to come upon a great theme, they will have to think of every aspect related to this that makes up the event. For example, they will have to help create the design (and basically the feel) of the posters, invitations, and souvenirs (including T-shirts, hats, mugs, etc) made for the event; they will have to create special promotional tools, such as jingles and videos, to generate further interest among the community and outsiders; and they will have to think of the best ways to promote the event. Although these may seem like overwhelming and daunting tasks for such a young group of students to undertake, it is wise not to underestimate their collective creativity, knowledge, efforts, and strengths.

These are exciting and busy times indeed for the Grade 2 students and Marketing Team! Please stay tuned for the greatest event of the year!
