Music at BCIS

The music curriculum in the Secondary School is built upon the IBMYP Middle Years Program framework for students in classes from Grades 6 - 10.  In Grade 11 and 12, IB Diploma Music is offered at both Standard and Higher Level. All students taking music in Grades 10, 11, and 12 join a school-based ensemble and the HS Choir, performing regularly as members of these ensembles and as soloists.

Ensemble Program

In the Secondary School Music Department there are a range of ensemble opportunities for students to join in on a weekly rehearsal basis:

BCIS Orchestra - Tuesdays 15:30 - 16:30, Rm 2416 (open to students who have played an orchestral instrument for 1 year or more)

BCIS Jazz Ensemble - Thursdays 15:30 - 16:30, Rm 2416 (open to students who have played an instrument for 2 years or more)

Middle School Choir - Monday lunchtime, Rm 2416 (open to students Grades 6 - 8)

High School Choir - Friday lunchtime, Rm 2416 (open to students Grades 9 - 12)

Students are welcome to join these ensembles at any time in the school year. Performance opportunities include assembly performances, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and other events throughout the year. In addition to school-based ensembles students can form their own groups and rehearse independently. The major performance opportunity for these students is the exciting and dynamic BCIS Idol event held annually.
