Everyone Is a Winner at the Flux Film Awards Ceremony 2017

20170523 flux

The Flux Film Awards Ceremony that recently took place at the Early Childhood Center (ECC) Gym brought a great turnout. This year, the event was truly special since it was the first time a banquet/awards ceremony were held together. Utilizing Lewis Carroll’s classic “Alice in Wonderland,” the theme of “Through the Looking Lens” was born to demonstrate the talents of the filmmakers through wonder, mystery, and intrigue. This theme also served as the perfect background for a fun-filled evening well-prepared by the Grade 10 students, along with their mentors from the Design and Technology Lab. The team indeed did an absolutely fabulous job in undertaking such a grand challenge by being the event’s designers/organizers this year, creating the posters themselves, as well as the entire layout of the event.

And a grand evening it was as reception drinks were served on arrival, a delicious buffet was available to the guests, and the best of the best Flux Film Festival presentations were given. With more than 70 entries submitted from numerous countries such as Italy, Thailand, and of course China, and narrowed down to a little over 20 in their respective areas, the nominees and awards were proudly announced by representatives of the event. Some of the categories for submission included documentary, narrative, video art (including music videos), public service announcements, and animation. Of course, a competition of this caliber would not be a contest without some top-notch judges to help out. This year, award winning Judges Mr. Tony Lin, Mr. Rick Garson, Mr. Montague Fendt, and Mr. Yijin took time from their very busy schedules to assist in choosing the winners and show their support. Their wisdom and experience in the field, as well as presence certainly added to the exciting evening. Last, but certainly not least, exclusive live entertainment, including students dazzling the audience with their music skills, was provided.

The BCIS students and staff members worked tirelessly to put on an unforgettable event for the community. Not only did they sacrifice much of their time and sleep, but they also generously donated all the proceeds raised to the “Help A Child Smile” Organization.
