PYP Exhibition Series Part I

20170630 pyp1

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) exhibition is an exciting and culminating event for the Programme in International Baccalaureate (IB) schools worldwide. The exhibition takes place in the final grade level prior to the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). It is considered one of the six Units of Inquiry. Students engage in a collaborative transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems in both the local and wider communities. The exhibition also allows the Grade 5 students to share their understanding of what it means to be a PYP student with the BCIS community.

This year, the action started early with the great initiative taken by students Sophia Hou and Annabel Richmond, who decided to hold a bake sale to raise money for a baby named Shan that needs cleft palate surgery. With the intent of raising 8,000 RMB, the cost of the surgery, they have worked relentlessly throughout several days to reach this goal. Asked why they were doing this, the girls mentioned it was something they believe they could achieve. In addition, they wanted to do this wonderful deed for the very cute Shan, who is the Richmond family’s foster baby. Another student also doing something great for the less fortunate, this time for our furry friends called canines, is student Jennifer from Grade 4P. She has decided to conduct her exhibition action on helping dogs through a trading system where a person can bring useful items these lovable creatures can use, such as bowls, dishes, blankets, towels, and toys, and exchange these for delicious baked brownies she made. The students’ actions truly embody the essence of what it truly is to be a responsible, compassionate, and inspired person.

This year’s PYP exhibition will take place from May 31 to June 1. We are certainly looking forward to all the innovative ideas the young creative minds have cooked up. We hope to see you on those days as well.
