BCIS Alumni in the Spotlight – Summer 2016

It is universal knowledge that the summer break translates to fun, rest, and relaxation for students after a long semester. Most look forward to being lazy in the sun (or hiding from it actually) and allowing their minds and body to rest. However, we are proud to say many of our alumni simply can not stay put! We have gathered a few anecdotes detailing how some of our students chose productive alternatives to enrich their lives during the holiday by taking part in some excellent programs. Here are their inspiring stories.

Reed Rambles On

Dr. Reed Rhodes possesses vast knowledge, experience, and expertise in the special education field. He began his illustrious career in 1978, teaching students with a wide range of exceptional learning needs in a variety of settings, including preschool, resource room, and so forth. Even with his busy schedule, he has somehow found the time to serve as the supervisor of the PTA Book Club, "If the Shu Fits,” which will have its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 1, at 08:30 at the ECC on the fourth floor. The first book to be discussed is titled, “Give and Take,” by Adam Grant, which he chose since it contains valuable information about the benefits of being a “giver,” as well as how to form a community of givers. Below, he explains the reason behind his selection.

DP Retreat at Goose & Duck Ranch

Being a high school student is no walk in the park. With so much to do on one’s plate, life can certainly be overwhelming. It can be even more daunting for students struggling to become familiar with a completely new environment in which they have to make new friends, adapt to a new education system, speak a language that is not their mother tongue for the majority of their studies, and so forth. It can be downright frightening and extremely difficult to keep pace with such a life. BCIS knows this well.

BCIS Summer Program a Resounding Success

20160805 summercamp1

The inaugural XperienceBCIS summer program was held to resounding success this past July. Unlike courses given during the holiday at other schools, the two-week program was specifically conducted to assist students from different educational backgrounds in making the leap into the international education system and get a head start in their transition into the IB program.
