Heaps of compassion – Yushu Relief Drive

After the Yu Shu earthquake that hit the Tibetan people there was an appeal in the Middle/High school for donations of warm clothes, rice and instant dried noodles.

The BCIS student and faculty response was overwhelming. In the one week campaign held in the Middle/High School library, we collected 172 adult jackets and pants, 188 children's jackets and pants, 28 scarves, 24 hats, 18 boots/tennis shoes, 12 pairs of gloves, 24 pairs of socks. In total there were 36 boxes and bags with 50 kg of flour, 28 kg rice, lots of instant noodle and porridge, heavy winter blankets, pillows and even carpers. Stationery items and toiletries were also collected. On Monday the goods were given to the Tian Tian Zhu Xue www.tiantianzhuxue.org (Supporting Students Everyday) organization that traditionally helps the schools in this region and is now distributing goods to all the affected people in the Yu Shu area.

News on College and University Acceptance

As well as being busy with lessons, assignments, CAS commitments, drama, music, sport and exam preparation the G12 students have been working hard on college and university applications. The students have spent much time researching, planning, meeting with the counselor (Mr. Carman) and applying to colleges and universities around the world to further their ambitions. Please review the offers they have received, listed below. As you will see, the list includes many highly prestigious universities. Both the students and school are delighted with these offers. The students are to be congratulated for being so successful.

The World of Work - for HS Students

Next year we hope to build into the curriculum experience of our older students (in grades 10 and/or 11) an opportunity to see first hand what the world of work looks like. Our thinking has students being actively engaged in a meaningful project that would have them collaborating with mentors in an organisation in Beijing. The kind of organisations we have in mind include (but is not limited to) banks, embassies, hotels, hospitals, universities and so on.

If you feel you would be willing to help – perhaps there are opportunities in your company that you feel would provide a mutually beneficial experience, for our students and your company, please get in touch with Mr. Davis at frank.davis@bcis.cn.

This year at BCIS the exhibition falls under the transdisciplinary theme ‘How We Express Ourselves’. The exhibition allows students to work collaboratively, and to address real-life issues that have been identified and investigated.
