BCIS in Focus

BCIS In Focus - May 2016

Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Friends of BCIS,

Our Grade 12 students have completed their classes and are now engaged in taking their respective exams. All have received multiple university acceptances and most have now decided where they will be attending next year. We congratulate all of Grade 12 as they prepare for graduation and the next step in life’s journey. We also want to express our appreciation to them for their many significant contributions to BCIS and to various worthy causes here in Beijing, China, and the world.

BCIS In Focus - April 2016

Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Friends of BCIS,

High-performing schools are always examining their practice, realizing that reflection is critical to the sustainability and advancement of the school’s mission and educational program. BCIS is consistently engaged in review and attendant conversation focused on our alignment with our mission and our educational program. It is a critical practice for a school, essential, in fact, if we are to remain viable.

BCIS In Focus- March 2016

Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Friends of BCIS,

In this edition of “In Focus,” I want to share some sentiments on the following topic, one that I will entitle “The Moral Imperative for Schools: Schools must be Organic, they must embrace the Dialectic, and they must be Innovative!”

BCIS In Focus - February 2016

Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Friends of BCIS,

As I write this edition of “In Focus” we are in the early days of the second semester at BCIS. It has been a very productive and positive year to date for the BCIS community. We are grateful to everyone who has made, and continues to make, significant contributions to BCIS and supported the mission of the school by sharing their talents, time, and treasure. During the winter vacation, I had some time to reflect on what makes BCIS distinctive and attractive to expatriate and Chinese families. Let me share my thoughts herein.

BCIS In Focus - December 2015

Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Friends of BCIS,

I want to use this "In Focus" to share with everyone what highly effective schools do to advance character education, and why it all matters. Walter Lippman, an American writer said that good character and ethical behavior are not transmitted through our genes, rather we have to work at them. William James, an American philosopher contributes to this idea by telling us that we are who we are as a result of habits that we cultivate during the course of our lives, particularly during our formative years.
