BCIS In Focus - February 2016
Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Friends of BCIS,
As I write this edition of “In Focus” we are in the early days of the second semester at BCIS. It has been a very productive and positive year to date for the BCIS community. We are grateful to everyone who has made, and continues to make, significant contributions to BCIS and supported the mission of the school by sharing their talents, time, and treasure. During the winter vacation, I had some time to reflect on what makes BCIS distinctive and attractive to expatriate and Chinese families. Let me share my thoughts herein.
BCIS has emerged over the past 10 years as one of the preeminent international schools, not only in China, but across Asia and beyond. Here in Beijing, there are many international schools, each one with a distinctive mission and the attendant niche that each one has attempted to establish in the Beijing international school marketplace.
BCIS has established a distinctive and appealing reputation as the international school that provides a rigorous, vibrant, and interdisciplinary world-class IB education, one that enables our students to move seamlessly around the world from one international school to another, while also preparing them for admission to a myriad of outstanding colleges and universities.
While the IB is one pillar of our highly successful program, the second pillar, and a very distinctive and select one at that, is the confluence of East and West, which truly positions BCIS to be the school of choice for families who want their children to experience a challenging and rewarding educational experience here in China. BCIS is one of a very few international schools that has been approved to accept Chinese Nationals. This privilege enables our students to experience the culture, language, people, and traditions of China, juxtaposed with the rich tapestry of an IB program of study.
Our student population of expatriates, representing many countries, together with students from our host country, China, enables our learners to enjoy the advantages of a multicultural environment, one that expands and enhances their global understanding and appreciation of the challenges and the opportunities of humankind the world over.
It is this blending of East and West that makes BCIS truly distinctive. This distinction is manifested in the BCIS IB program and the privilege to enroll Chinese Nationals, the latter affording the BCIS community an unfiltered and rich opportunity to truly understand and appreciate China and its people. The result is a school of choice for ever increasing numbers of families.
Within the next 12 to 18 months the BCIS enrollment will reach one thousand students. We are one of a few international schools in Beijing and China that continues to experience a healthy annual increase in enrollment. We are very appreciative of our families for placing their confidence in BCIS to provide their sons and daughters with a rich, rigorous and substantive educational program.
