CNY CELEBRATIONS AT BCIS
Dennis Wang
Chinese New Year is a time for all to celebrate the year gone by and the beginning of a new one! Here at Beijing City International School (BCIS), each of our school sections comes together to perform for and engage with the #BCIScommunity at this special time.
Our ECC students celebrated the New Year with their annual Chinese New Year parade to show off their freshest New Year threads. As a team of ECC staff drummers beat a tune and parents lined the route, ECC principal Debra Cota and vice principal Lucila Zornosa-Sanchez led a jolly stream of students wearing qipao dresses, red jackets and with lanterns in tow, for a tour around the building.
The Elementary School wowed the BCIS community with their Chinese New Year Gala Performances, delivered entirely in Chinese, included Grade 3 depicting the ancient story of the monster Nian, Grade 5 students telling the Monkey King epic, a recital of wonderful ancient poems by Grade 2, as well as international students performing a traditional Chinese family's New Year meal!
The Secondary School's Chinese New Year reached new heights of entertainment too, with incredible performances showcasing a Crosstalk comedy duo, romantic duets of an ancient bygone era, an acapella group providing the soundtrack for a smooth Chengdu-inspired rap song, and an incredible recital of Chinese tongue twisters by international students.
This year, Chinese New Year celebrations were filled with warmth and enthusiasm for the Year of the Rat As we #BCIScelebrate this holiday, we wish you and your family a happy New Year!
