2020 UNIVERSITY OFFER SEASON IS HERE
Dennis Wang
University offer season has arrived and Beijing City International School (BCIS) Grade 12 students have begun to receive early placement offers. Our University Guidance Counselors are constantly working with students across the Secondary School to survey their interests and support them in finding and applying for the best fit universities for their higher education.
Some BCIS Grade 12 students have begun to receive news back from their applications. Amily recently received confirmation of her Early Decision place to study film at New York University's (NYU) Tisch School of the Arts – a world renowned college for movie and television actors, producers and directors – with a star-studded alumnus that includes Spike Lee, Kristen Bell and Martin Scorsese. As a BCIS IDEATE student, Amily was able to use the flexibility and choice in her learning to complete her portfolio and application, which included the production of a short film, where she employed a crew of over 30 people and financed all herself. By studying the IDEATE program, Amily was also able to apply to NYU with her three IB DP class results rather than taking an SAT, a route Counselors were familiar with and which Amily took to get her Early Decision place at this prestigious school.
Chris has also received an Early Decision place at the leading U.S. Liberal Arts university - Bates College. Chris is known around school as someone who truly embodies the BCIS school mission. A well-rounded learner enrolled in the IB DP and a community-focused individual and active volunteer, Chris' personal characteristics and strong grades ensured his application was noticed by university admissions officers. Once he had established communication with the Bates College Admissions Department, he was able to schedule the interview in-person with a university representative when they were visiting BCIS as part of a university fair. Creating a personal bond, aided by the university being present at one of BCIS' many university fairs, Chris left a strong impression on the admissions officer and now is overjoyed to have secured a place at a college that is suited to him as an individual.
Our University Guidance Counselors support students to find the best fit in their higher educational choices by developing broad-ranging knowledge on different university admissions processes, as well as connecting BCIS directly with individual university admissions teams and officers. Whether this be through organizing college fairs and university speakers to visit BCIS or at international events such as the CIS Global Forum on International Admission & Guidance in Bilbao, Spain, our Counselors have established ties with many leading North American, European, Australian and Asian universities. As Grade 12 students eagerly await university decisions, we look forward to more good news as they are accepted to their preferred universities.
