Where in the World are BCIS Alumni?
Cecilia PEI
As we move from one academic year to the next, the BCIS 2024 graduates are preparing to embark on their new journeys, becoming new fresh entries on to the BCIS alumni map. This map not only highlights the varied and unique paths that BCIS alumni from previous cohorts have taken but also shows which universities worldwide have welcomed BCIS students.
Since 2005, BCIS has had over 550 graduates across 16 cohorts, who have attended more than 240 universities worldwide. The type of institutions our graduates attend are varied; some go to prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and Imperial College London. Our alumni have also attended notable liberal arts colleges like Williams College, Wellesley College, Grinnell College, Bowdoin College, Wesleyan University, and Pomona College. Many have chosen leading specialized institutions such as Pratt Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons School of Design, and the Architectural Association School of Architecture.
Among our graduates, nearly one-third have pursued STEM fields, with majors including biology, physics, applied mathematics, and computer science, with over 20% having focused on economics, finance, and business studies. Nearly 20% have entered the humanities and social sciences, such as law, education, and communications, as well as 16% having joined top art schools, pursuing their artistic dreams.
These statistics highlight the diverse academic paths chosen by our alumni, providing BCIS with valuable insights on how to support each individual's passions and personalized learning journey. Seeing our graduates excel around the world strengthens our commitment to nurturing global citizens and lifelong learners.
As September approaches, the Class of 2024 prepares to embark on their new journeys, excited for what lies ahead. We are confident that our graduates will continue to overcome the new challenges which come with entering this next stage of life, retaining their unique personalities and drawing on their experiences at BCIS to face whatever comes next with confidence and competence. They might look like some of the following Class of 2023 students in a year’s time, as we caught up with our graduates of last year who shared their first-year experiences with us.
Vivian
Class of 2023
Cornell University
“My first year at Cornell was full of unexpected surprises. The experiences I gained at BCIS are evident in many aspects of university life. For instance, my individual passion and self-drive have been invaluable, and my openness to trying new things allowed me to quickly adapt to university life. ”
Vivian is currently interning in a marketing and communications role at Cornell University, serving as an undergraduate admissions ambassador and a peer advisor for academic and career planning. She is also involved with the local newspaper, the Cornell Daily Sun, and the events committee, and will continue her active role in the community by being a teaching assistant next semester.
Jessica,
Class of 2023
University of Notre Dame
“BCIS instilled in me a curiosity for exploring new things and taught me how to tackle academic challenges and communicate effectively with professors.”
This year, Jessica began a three-year undergraduate research project in a biology professor's lab. Reflecting on her IB Extended Essay, Personal Project, and MYP Project Exhibition, she recognizes how these experiences equipped her with the skills and confidence to transition smoothly into academia at a university level.
Bonbon
Class of 2023
New York University
“Transitioning from high school to college has been smooth for me. University life feels like an extension of my time at BCIS, just as I had hoped. ”
At NYU, Bonbon studied Collaborative Arts, gaining skills in technology, film, writing, and music production during his first year. Outside of class, he continued exploring his diverse interests, with plenty of personal projects and connections made in his first year. This summer, he returned to BCIS to work as a Visual Arts assistant, supporting our VA staff and students in both the secondary school and kindergarten on their variety of projects and classes, as well as helping compile the IBDP art curriculum into an accessible book. Now back in New York, he's working on mural projects for the University.
