On November 16th, BCIS Early Childhood Center (ECC) will host its Open House event for families with children aged 2 to 6. We invite you to explore our magical campus in the heart of Beijing's CBD to experience our learning environment firsthand, participate in engaging classroom activities, and discover how BCIS applies high-quality learning and teaching throughout the early childhood stage. At BCIS ECC, we believe that young children learn best when they are actively engaged in experiences of self-discovery and can freely interact with their environment, peers, and teachers. Our faculty utilizes the PYP framework to deliver a curriculum that nurtures the meaningful development of our early years students in our state-of-the-art facilities.
Every day at ECC, both inside and outside the classroom, children's learning is organic and enriching. Their exploration is interdisciplinary, and is through the lens of various inquiry units, free from rigid subject schedules. For example, during a recent "Movement" unit in the Nursery class, children engaged with movement not just as a physical concept, but through interactions with the natural world. In the classroom building area, they experimented with how slopes affect the speed of rolling balls. Outdoors, they observed the motion of swings and learned how to make them swing higher. In music class, they expressed rhythm and melody from different cultures through body movements and ribbons. In P.E., they navigated obstacle courses, learning spatial concepts while mimicking the jumps and walks of different animals.
Through such exploration, children develop a holistic understanding of the world and how knowledge connects across disciplines. We recognize that growth often occurs subtly—play is full of challenges, guided daily by patient teachers who provide opportunities for children to stretch their abilities and continually grow. We also aim to help families better understand their children's development and learning processes, working collaboratively to support them.
Each year at ECC is filled with rich parent-school collaborative activities and workshops. We also invite external experts in early childhood education to share insights on learning through play and strategies for fostering a love for reading. Recently, international early education expert Tania Lattanzio returned to ECC to provide professional support and lead a workshop on cross-disciplinary learning in early childhood. Parents participated in a "bridge-building" activity, gaining firsthand experience of how their children develop thinking and logic while integrating knowledge from physics, mathematics, and art.
If you would like to learn more about our curriculum, experience the inspiring environment we’ve created for 2-6 year olds in the CBD, and see how our teachers inspire curiosity and inquiry in children, we warmly welcome families to join our Open House event on November 16. You’ll hear from our Principal, Ms. Becher, and her international early education team as they share their educational philosophy, tour classrooms, participate in trial classes, and engage in meaningful discussions about parenting and early childhood education with us. BCIS looks forward to partnering with more families to help children embark on a rewarding learning journey filled with high-quality learning and teaching!
