A Community that Empowers Student Agency: BCIS Open House
Cecilia PEI
On October 19, Beijing City International School will host an Open House for the Elementary and Secondary schools. As the first Open House of the new 2024-25 academic year at the BCIS main campus, we warmly invite you to explore our community and experience how our 20 years of educational excellence fosters student agency through a high-quality curriculum, engaging learning environments, and extensive supportive resources — immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of student-led learning at BCIS!
Known not only for our exceptional IB programs, BCIS is also proud of the rich array of extracurricular activities on offer and its strong sense of community. From the Avenir Business Competition and Model United Nations to student-led charity events and VEX Robotics competitions, plenty of activities are initiated and carried out by students, backed by community resources, highlighting BCIS’ commitment to student agency and leadership. In our community, students are not just recipients of resources; they are leaders in their own learning journeys, actively engaging in activities and experiences across different disciplines and fields, backing themselves as being the best ambassadors of their own educational experiences.
Inside BCIS' buildings, you'll find well-equipped science laboratories, art classrooms showcasing student works, and a circular garden on the rooftop where interdisciplinary science and sustainability projects are conducted. Notably, the elementary school’s makerspace, and the advanced design and technology lab in the secondary school have become hubs of creativity and innovation. Here, students systematically explore and learn through projects, understanding the theoretical processes from design to production, and effectively utilizing tools and knowledge to bring their creative ideas to life.
As a continually growing learning community, BCIS is committed to upgrading its facilities to meet the evolving needs of its members. Last year, after high demand from the school population, the APEX center officially opened as a new landmark for technology learning, complementing the primary makerspace and secondary design and technology labs. This center offers specialized equipment and resources that enhances the theoretical and practical aspects of robotics and AI-related learning, quickly becoming one of the most dynamic learning environments in our community. Within just six months, members have engaged in team robotics building, cross-grade model competitions, and several interschool competitions hosted in this space.
On our campus, an empowering learning environment awaits you at every turn. BCIS believes that through these learning scenarios, students are no longer passive recipients of knowledge, and instead become proactive doers and innovators. In these spaces, they are challenged, empowered, and inspired to expand their perspectives and take charge of their personalized learning journeys.
If you wish to step on to campus and experience first-hand what it means to be a learner at BCIS, we invite you to join us for the Open House on October 19 at our main campus. We look forward to welcoming you to this truly student-led learning community and sharing all that we have to offer!
