G12 STUDENT RECEIVES TOP U.S. AWARD

Dennis Wang

We are proud to share that Victoria Lu, a Beijing City International School (BCIS) Grade 12 student and BCIS scholarship recipient, has been named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Victoria was given this prestigious award because, out of the over 1.5 million students around the world who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), she scored in the top 2%! The award Victoria has received is in recognition of her exceptional academic promise demonstrated by her outstanding performance in this examination and will support her in her ongoing academic journey.

Since joining BCIS in Grade 5, Victoria has been an active member of our school community, demonstrating commitment and excellence both in her academic and enrichment pursuits. Victoria has shown a deep passion for action and service, leading groups and events to help those in need. She leads the WeClub, a club that is dedicated to improving education in rural China, for which she secured a $2,000 ACAMIS Learning Grant and is using it to organize a summer outreach trip to a rural school in Yunnan. Victoria is also a member of Bethel, a club that helps to fundraise for a school that teaches visually impaired orphans. Outside of school, Victoria enjoys the arts, she is one of the organizers of the Flux Film Festival, she has created a 10-minute documentary film for the Bethel Orphanage, and she loves to play the Zhudi (traditional bamboo flute) and Hulusi (cucurbit flute).

After graduating from BCIS, Victoria wishes to study Biochemistry or Neuroscience as a major in college. She has completed a 3-week summer internship at a lab that researches Alzheimer's disease, as well as being on the team that designed a smart pillbox that won first place of the Avenir business competition. We wish Victoria continuing success as she empowers and inspires others at school and in her life beyond BCIS. #BCISchallenge #BCIScelebration
